Who killed the album?

Smashing Pumpkins claims iTunes killed the album. Really? Or maybe people, when given a choice between buying the one or two songs that are good or an entire album of Suck, will opt for the former.

Back in the day, we didn’t have a choice except to buy an entire album of Suck because that was the only choice. You want Black and Blue by Van Halen? You’ve got to buy OU812. That’s not the case today my music loving friend.

Back then, the recording artists could come up with a few decent songs and include them with 7 other songs that I refer to as “filler songs.” Today, they can’t get away with that as much. At least with iTunes users. iTunes is holding their feet to the fire. Put out or get out. For that, I am truly grateful.
